On March 7th at 4:40 AM PST, the moon will be full in the constellation of Virgo. Full moons are the culmination of all the energy that has been building from the new moon. It’s here where we can see the completion of cycles and goals. It’s a time of celebration and a time of fulfillment.
I didn’t really set any goals or intentions at the new moon in Pisces. I went with the flow of the energy and just really enjoyed things that I don’t normally. I tried to connect with my inner self more. The part that doesn’t really get to see the light.
Sometimes we store our dreams, thoughts, and wants that have been deemed impractical or unacceptable there. Moon in Pisces is the best time to just play in that place, to allow yourself to dream. That’s what I did. And not every dream or fantasy was gold, but the ones that kept repeating, those I paid attention to.
Now at the full moon in Virgo, the energy is the opposite. It’s what we can bring from the dream world into this world. I really love this dynamic too. Virgo isn’t telling us to grow up and be practical. She’s giving us this energy to sift through these dreams and find the ones that mean the most.
Virgo is the gardener and with the coming of spring, now is the best time to celebrate these dreams and till the earth in which they will be planted. Normally, I don’t sow new ideas, goals, or wants at the full moon. I like to reflect on the past few weeks and sometimes, I go back to when the moon was new in the same sign, and see how far I’ve come. It’s a time to celebrate accomplishments. It’s also a time to see where I could improve.
Some goals or dreams don’t manifest or are still incubating. If that has happened, I seek guidance from my guides, gods or goddesses I’m working with to manifest the goal, and/or from my Higher Self. In the waning cycles of the moon, I cull and regroup. However, with the coming of the spring equinox, this full moon I’ve decided to do something different.
The energy of this moon for me feels like it’s new and is still growing. At this full moon, I want to use that Virgoan energy and plan out my “garden”. It has a lot of the same energy as the New Year. I’m not making resolutions, but I’m definitely calling in more of what I want for this growing season.
I’m going to weed away all the energy sucks that takes up my time and attention. I’m going to create room for new things to grow. I’m going to celebrate and honor all of my victories and especially the failures in the past year. It is those failures and victories that have brought me to this moment in time and space. By honoring my past, I can breathe easier in the present, and walk towards a new future.
I haven’t quite figured it out. So far my ideas are listing all the things I want to release and burning them. Then making a list of the things I want to nurture and burying it with the ashes. I’ll probably include an offering for the Earth and any deities that will help me on my journey.
Hmm… I really like that idea. I’m going to keep playing with it and see if there are any herbs or oils that might help as well. Here’s a rough sketch of my full moon plans and ritual.
Materials:
Paper
Pen or pencil
Pot
Soil
Fire safe container
Matches or Lighter
Ritual
Clear and cleanse yourself and your ritual space. Cast a circle of protection.
Call in the moon. Do automatic writing or any kind of method to brainstorm things that you want to release. Write it down on a piece of paper. Do the same for the things you want to add to the soil for future growth. This might also include a tarot spread and speaking with guides (which I do through automatic writing, use the method of your choice) to come up with things to let go of and things you would like more of.
Some quick ideas might be releasing limited thinking and embracing high self-value and worth. It could also be releasing self-sabotage expressed through procrastination and embracing a network and support system that boosts you and your work. Get honest with yourself. Do it with grace and love, but get real honest. Tap into the Virgo energy. She’s really good at reading the room.
Burn the release pages. Include any cleansing and purification herbs and oils that are safe to burn. Once they are ashes, mix it with the soil and add it to the pot. Fold up the other page. Bury it in the pot. This can be done in the ground as well. And if you would like to create multiple pots, you can shred the things you need more of to manifest your goals and spread it throughout the different pots. Think of it as intentioned mulch.
The vessel(s) is prepared. At the Spring Equinox and/or the next new moon, you can plant the seeds of what you wish to grow.
Continue any kind of spell working, tool dedications and cleansings, or just hang out and meditate in the space until you’re ready to let go.
Release any deities, ancestors, guides, or energies that were called into the circle. Release your circle of protection.
This is a quick and basic ritual. Add to it as you need or use it as a basis for something different. Feel free to make moon water or charge tools and crystals in the moonlight. The ritual will be more powerful if done the night before, the actual full moon, and the day after. Definitely use the power of numbers to help. Also, keep in mind, for each thing released, call in something positive. Nature abhors a vacuum. If you don't fill the vacuum with things that you wish for, then she definitely will.
Happy Full Moon Lovelies!
